Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket Overview
As you probably already know, Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket is made from Pertex Quantum material, known for its lightweight and durable properties. After testing this jacket in the field, I believe that this is more than just an insulating jacket, it’s a versatile piece that can handle extreme weather and rough outdoor activities. It’s also has a great look for those who want to look good while staying warm, or even wear it in the streets (although the brand specifically states it’s not a streetwear!).
This down jacket combines premium water repellent goose down and PrimaLoft Gold Active inserts so I was able to stay warm even when hiking in wet conditions. I also think that it’s perfect both for alpine adventures and everyday cold season wear.
Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket is a good investment. The combination of function and style is perfect for those who face cold and harsh conditions.
Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket

- Great windbreaker
- Water resistant
- Light and easy to pack

Design and Construction
Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN jacket’s main material is the ultra light and water repellent Pertex Quantum with Diamond Fuse technology for added durability. According to the brand, this combination can handle rough outdoor activities and provides great abrasion resistance.
What makes this jacket different is the bonded external seams. These seams retain heat and add extra protection against the weather. Whenever I was facing stronger winds or some unexpected rain, the jacket kept me warm and dry. With my earlier experience using a similar jacket, I am certain that the water resistance will eventually weaken, but for the time being, it’s pretty solid.
In terms of durability the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket seems to be built to last. I think that the tougher outer fabric makes it more suitable for rough outdoor activities than lighter options like my old favorite Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody. That’s what made it a trusty companion for all of my adventures.
Insulation
After testing this jacket on quite a few outdoor trips, I truly think that one of the best features of the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket is its insulation performance. The jacket has a double chamber construction with down and PrimaLoft Gold Active that manages body heat and moisture. This combination kept me warm without overheating in all the conditions I’ve been in.
Another great feature of this jacket is its high fill power of 850 cuin. Whether you’re on icy trails or facing freezing winds this synthetic insulation should keep you comfortable. And even though I haven’t been able to test it in such conditions (yet), the insulation seems to be as good (or perhaps even better) than the one of my old Nano Puff Hoody, which kept me warm during extreme conditions.
To prevent cold spots the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket has double chamber construction for better insulation placement.
Weight and Packability
Despite being warm the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket is very light. It has 80 g/m² of PrimaLoft Gold Active which adds warmth without weight.
The packability is a practical feature as it can be stored in the front right pocket. This is great for hiking, backpacking and climbing, when you need to save space in your pack.
The ultra light Pertex Quantum material should make the jacket even more packable. It’s compact so you can stuff it away when not needed. It’s a great addition to any adventure.
For proof of packability, I also made some images of how little space it would take in your pack, and how light it is for all of that awesome insulation.

Wind and Water Resistance
When it comes to wind and water resistance the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket doesn’t disappoint. Made with Pertex Quantum Pro material it’s fully windproof and protects you from the elements.
This is perfect for windy conditions whether you’re on a mountain or in an open field. I’ve tested it on numerous alpine altitude hikes, where the wind is usually pretty significant and never had any issues.
The jacket has a durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment to keep moisture out when wet for a long time. The treatment and taped seams should keep you dry in heavy rain. The water resistant down treatment in the jacket helps to maintain insulation in damp conditions. Primaloft Gold Active in the shoulders and hood adds insulation when wet.
As mentioned before, so far it kept its promise of being pretty water resistant, but as it’s not made purely for that function, I suspect this feature will weaken as with all jackets, no matter how good they are. Still, you can usually extend water resistance levels with proper care of your jacket.
Fit and Comfort
When choosing an insulated jacket fit and comfort is usually one of the key elements. And I think Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket delivers pretty well in this regard. However, the only note I have (as well as found some other users have) the fit runs a little small especially for those with an athletic build (or slightly chubby like me) so sizing up might be a good idea.
The ergonomic design with Mammut’s Vertical Motion Technology allows for natural movement in alpine activities. This is great for hiking, scrambling and climbing, as you can move freely and efficiently. The slightly longer design of the jacket goes down to the thighs for added warmth and protection.
The hood is well fitted and warm for alpine conditions.
Features and Functionality
The Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket has many features to enhance its functionality. One of the best is the helmet compatible hood with reinforced peak so it’s stable and protected in harsh conditions. The adjustable hood also has optimal visibility and can be adjusted while wearing gloves.
For climbers the belay jacket has two harness compatible front pockets that are placed for easy access when wearing gear. There’s also a zippered inner breast pocket for small items.
Other features include a silicone hem to keep the jacket under a harness and elasticated hand gaiters to keep snow and cold out. These little details make the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket a great all round option for outdoor enthusiasts.

My Field Testing Notes
Testing the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket in Alberta, Canada was very useful. I tested it on numerous trips in the Canadian Rockies, and extensivelly on the Icefields Parkway near Jasper and it performed amazingly well.
Whether hiking in the mountains or scrambling near a glacier in cold and windy conditions it kept me warm and comfortable.
The adjustable hood and reinforced peak were great during these activities. They stayed in place even for an athletic build and added to overall comfort.
I was able to pack the jacket into my smallest daypacks, it is light and hardly takes up any space.
What made the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket my go-to jacket for this and many upcoming seasons is its amazing insulation capabilities. It’s not too hot wearing during warmer seasons, but it keeps ypu EXTREMELY warm during the cold. Additionally, even though wind breaking is not its primary feature, it does a great job with that too.
I have worn my beloved Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody (I kid you not) for 9 years in a row – every season and in any conditions, it could handle it all. Sadly, it finally started ripping apart. So, having run into the Eigerjoch Advanced jacket, I feel like this could be my choice for the next 9 years. We will see!

Compared to Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody
Comparing the Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket to the Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody shows some differences. The Mammut has 850 cuin certified down so it’s lighter and packs smaller. The Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody has 60-g PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco which is less lofty but still works.
In terms of performance the Mammut is warmer and more weather resistant so better for harsh conditions. The Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody is windproof and water resistant but not as good in very wet conditions.
